What is Form I-765 used for?

Certain foreign nationals, who are eligible to operate in the United States, use Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, to request approval to work. When working with workers, U.S. employers should request proof of the worker’s right to work.

U.S. citizens and lawful irreversible citizens (green card holders) might work without requesting unique permission. Some nonimmigrants, temporary in nature, might be granted employment authorization upon request from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). However, not all nonimmigrants are qualified for this advantage. Individuals granted employment permission with an accepted Form I-765 get an employment permission file.
