MP backs biodiesel tax break campaign

29 June 2011

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for companies who produce biodiesel.

Producers converting cooking oil into biodiesel currently gain from a 20p differential however that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has actually been meeting the biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said “a number of little services in Cornwall currently generate income from used cooking oil”.

He added: “In order to have the ability to get this kind of market going it does require simply a bit of lift which comes in the form of tax inescapable.“

Biodiesel is a blend of conventional diesel, rapeseed and veggie oils.
