The Middle East is a region where cars and truck is king and fuel is cheap, frequently leaving little incentive to discover more environmentally-friendly methods of moving around.

But this year, as protests throughout the Middle East have pushed up the price of oil, the issue of discovering alternative sources of fuel has entered sharp focus.

In a region that has among the highest carbon footprints in the world, one organization is benefiting from the growing pressure to discover alternatives to oil. It’s set up the first scheme to recycle cooking oil into biodiesel. It’s proving rewarding too, already their client-list includes McDonald’s.
