Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for companies who produce biodiesel.

Producers converting cooking oil into biodiesel currently take advantage of a 20p but that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been consulting with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said “a number of small organizations in Cornwall currently make money from utilized cooking oil”.

He added: “In order to be able to get this type of market going it does need simply a little bit of lift which comes in the kind of tax inevitable.“

Biodiesel is a mix of conventional diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
